Gaston County’s diverse workforce includes the more than 2.3 million residents of the Charlotte-Rock Hill-Gastonia Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), and Gaston itself has a population of over 210,000 (Census Bureau) with a labor force of over 100,000 residents (BLS LAUS). With 18 four year colleges or universities in the Charlotte region, Gaston County employers have access to over 14,000 graduates each year. The 18 higher education institutions have a total annual enrollment of over 62,000. The Charlotte Region is host to ten community colleges across 15 campuses. Among these campuses, the Charlotte Region has a total enrollment of over 53,000 and more than 9,000 annual graduates from the community colleges.

North Carolina offers a free New and Expanding Industry Training (NEIT) Program:
  • Companies creating 12 or more new production jobs in excess of their previous 3-year maximum employment level are eligible. Resources may support training assessment, program development, instructional costs, and training delivery for new front-line personnel involved in the direct production of goods and services and their first-line supervisors.
  • Gaston College, a leading community college, will create custom training programs for qualified employers. Courses are designed the way you want them, taught by qualified instructors, at your site or on campus.
  • North Carolina’s Incumbent Worker Program provides funding to established N. C. businesses to provide educational and skills training for current workers. Click for details
  • North Carolina’s JobLink Career Centers offer employers a single place to access a variety of employment and training services to meet their workforce needs.
